The Wa West District Education Directorate has inaugurated its District School Management Committee (D-SMC) as part of measures to improve education standards in the district. The move also satisfies the long-standing gap within the Directorate, as it is required of every Education Directorate to have a functional District School Management Committee.

The Provost of the Wa West District Education Directorate, Mr. Amatus D. Tug-uu in his speech to members of the Committee bemoaned the falling standards of education in the district, indicating it is a major reason necessitating the formation of the D-SMC. Reminding members of their responsibilities, Mr. Tug-uu appealed for their help in addressing the challenges affecting the standards of education in the district.

The District Director listed the duties of the D-SMC to include consulting with the Director on matters relating to educational management, participating in SMC meetings, and sharing school management concerns with stakeholders and development partners.

Others are providing checks and balances on headteachers’ financial services, playing active role in teacher postings and transfers within the area and attending to the welfare needs of members and teachers in the district.

Mr. Amatus Tug-uu applauded the SMCs across the district on their massive investment in sustaining infrastructure and the significant impact in propelling academic outcomes in the district.

The Committee made up of five members is chaired by the District Coordinator for Complementary Basic Education (CBE), Mr. Iddrisu Abdulai. The other members are Mr. John Kpinaa as Secretary, Mr. Ahmed Abdul Rashid as Organiser, Mr. Kancheli Gbiel Peter, Financial Secretary, and Madam Bala Theresa as a Member.

Chairman of the committee, Mr. Iddrisu promised on behalf of the Committee to work and support schools in the District to improve their performances. He called for collaboration from other stakeholders to this regard.
