Katherine Lankono outlines achievements as DCE for Nadowli/Kaleo; thanks Akufo-Addo, Bagbin

The Nadowli Kaleo District Assembly on Tuesday, 29^th October, 2024 held its 3^rd Ordinary Meeting at the District Assembly Hall to discuss development issues of the area.

The District Chief Executive, Hon. Katherine T. Lankono, in her address to the house highlighted some developments in the district in various sectors, including security, finance, health, education, agriculture, and others.

According to her, “the journey has not been easy, but we have chalked some success and milestones over the years. Development is a continuation and we must not stop in our strive for a better future”.

Touching on the financial moblisation, Madam Lankono indicated that the Assembly’s Internally Generated Funds (IGF) continues to improve on yearly basis for the last three years. “I recall last year we exceeded our IGF target and we are hoping to do so for the 2024 fiscal year,” she stated.

The records show that, as at September 2024, the Assembly collected GHC397,295.43, representing 92.17% of the budgeted amount of GHC431,068.80 for the year.

According to the Hon DCE, her administration has seen many projects started and completed and are currently in use by the district. These include the construction of 3-unit classroom block at Goli, 2-unit kindergarten classroom block at Meguo, construction of semi-detached teachers’ quarters at Nadowli, and supply of 100No. mono desk and teachers’ furniture at Sakana Model Girls.

Under Agriculture, Katherine said, in addition to other projects, her administration has supervised the constructed 10No. earth dams under the 1-Village, 1-Dam (1VID) initiative. These are located in Serekpere, Biili, Nator, Naro, and Kulpieni. The rest can be found in Kuuri, Chang, Janguasi, Kpazie and Tangasie.

The health sector also saw several projects including the construction of 1No. Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and Kangaroo Mother Care (KMC) at Nadowli Hospital, Construction of 1No. CHPS at Changu, and supply of 3No. mini ambulance buses to Charikpong, Kaleo and Takpo.

Water and sanitation, governance, road infrastructure, and security were not left out in the development drive, she said.

While the district still has some other projects ongoing at various stages of completion, Hon. Lankono hinted of new projects that are about to commence in the district.

The DCE applauded members of the Assembly for their support, and further urged them to continue supporting the ongoing projects for the total growth of the district.

Madam Kathrine used the occasion to thank various stakeholders such as President Nana Akufo-Addo and the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, for their belief and support for her in the past eight years as DCE.

“Let me extend my gratitude to His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo Addo for the confidence reposed in me, retaining me for the past eight years in his administration, the Right Honourable Speaker of Parliament, Chiefs and people of Nadowli Kaleo.”

She also thanked the “members of the District Security Council, NPP Constituency Executives, staff of the Assembly, especially heads of departments, and all development partners for their unrelenting support.” Her heartfelt gratitude was extended to “the media for always having interest in what I do in the District”.

The 3^rd Ordinary Meeting afforded assembly members a means to discuss the report from the executive committee of the Assembly and also presented issues or concerns of their electoral areas and the district as a whole.
