The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) has announced that over 150 study studies belonging to the University of Cape Coast (UCC), the University for Development Studies (UDS), and the University of Education, Winneba (UEW) have not been accredited for academic work.
In a statement issued on Thursday, October 3, the Commission listed 91 centres for UCC, 21 for UDS and 48 for UEW.
Out of the number, seven of these centres have been identified to be in the Upper West Region.
The UCC has the highest of four unaccredited centres in the region. These are the Wa Senior High School, Wa; the Lawra Senior High School, Lawra; the Nandom Senior High School, Nandom; and the Tumu College of Education, Tumu.
Two centres: UDS Jirapa Study Centre and UDS Wa Study Centre, were listed as unaccredited for the University of Development Studies while the NJ. Ahmadiyya College of Education, Wa, was listed as the only unaccredited centre for the UEW in the region
GTEC therefore served notice to prospective students, parents and guardians that anyone who enrols at any of the centres for the 2024/2025 academic year will be doing so at their own peril.
The Commission urged the general public “to avoid enrolling in programmes offered at these unaccredited study centres”.
“GTEC will not recognise academic credentials awarded to students who enrolled with the UCC, UDS or UEW for the 2024/2025 academic year and studied at these unaccredited centres”, it stated.
