Former president, John Dramani Mahama has suggested that it will be appropriate if the Ghana Armed Forces are excluded from the management of the 2024 general elections.

According to Mr. Mahama, managing elections is the core mandate of the police but not the military. Thus, the army should only be involved when the police are unable to control the situations during the electoral process, he said.

The NDC flagbearer said the exclusion of the military in the electoral process will further boost the chances of a peaceful election in December 2024.

While assuring the chiefs and people of Tumu in the Sissala East Municipality of peaceful elections, the former president urged them to compare the records and make a wise decision come December 2024. “Tumu Kuoro, you have entered two markets and you know the one that is sweet, even you Chiefs are sufring and that implies to everyone in this country.”

John Mahama also expressed confidence that the National Democratic Congress will come to power in 2025 and turn the economy around for all.

He said the current managers of the economy have failed and should not be given another chance. “Tumu Kuoro, if you gave your car to driver banza and you took the car from him, will you give it to the driver Banza mate or a driver who showed perfection before,” he quizzed.

The former president made these comments when during a brief stop at the palace of Tumu Kuoro as part of his visit to the Sissala East Municipality. He was in the Upper West Region for two days as part of his “Building the Ghana We Want Together tour”.
