A total of 168 persons have filed nominations to contest the eleven (11) vacant metropolitan, municipal, and district chief executive (MMDCE) positions in the Upper West region.
The list is made up of party functionaries, both popular and unpopular among the grassroots. It includes regional and constituency executives of the NDC as well as party financiers.
The Wa West District recorded the highest number of applicants, 21. This is followed by the Nandom Municipality, 19, DBI, 18, and Wa East, 17.
The Nadowli/Kaleo District and the Sissala West District both have 16 applicants while 15 and 13 filed for the Lawra and the Jirapa municipalities, respectively.
For the Wa Metropolis, the Sissala East Municipality, and the Lambussie District, each has 11 nominees vying for the highest post at the assembly.
