The Association of Rural Banks in the Upper West Region has announced plans to operate a regional bank to serve as a mother financial institution for all member rural banks.
This disclosure was made by the chairman of the Board of Directors, Firmino Bergyire Aasoyir, of the Nandom Rural Bank (NRB) during the Bank’s 41st Annual General Meeting (AGM) held on December 23, 2023 at Nandom.
Delivering a report on behalf of the NRB Board at the AGM, Mr. Bergyire Aasoyir (Esq.) noted that the Association of Rural Banks (Wa Chapter) has advanced plans to establish a regional bank in the Wa Municipality to be owned by the four rural Banks under one umbrella.
The four members of the association are the Nandom Rural Bank, the Lawra Rural Bank, the Sissala Rural Bank and the Sonzele Rural Bank.
The regional bank will serve as a spring board for the growth and expansion of the rural banking system in the region, he said, adding that none of the four rural banks has the financial muscle to champion the course alone. Though the idea is still at its foundation stage, Lawyer Firmino expressed confidence that it will soon be implemented to the fullest.
