NADMO donates to Hilla Liman SHS
The National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) in the Upper West Region has donated some relief items to Hilla Liman Senior High School in Gwollu in the Sissala West District last Saturday.
After a heavy rain storm that ripped off the girls dormitory, boys dormitory, the dining hall, and the school administration destroying several belongings of the students and the school leaving the students stranded.
The items include 30 pieces of students mattresses, 80 pieces of plastic plates, 60 pieces of cups,60 pieces of buckets, 2 bails of blankets,1 box of mosquito coil and 500 seedlings wind protective tress .
Speaking to Radio Mak News, the Upper West Regional NADMO Director, Mustapha Ahmed bemoaned the rate at which rain storm destroys structures in the region and called for value for money by contractors noting that, last year the same school suffered the same incident
The headmaster of the school, Jalinga Mahama thanked NADMO for its kind gesture and quick response to their plight.
He however noted that some challenges that disturbs them in the school, among them are lack of adequate classrooms, he said some of the students has to use the school uncompleted building as dining hall as well as classroom which affects teaching and learning.
The headmaster indicated that, the school has only one mechanized borehole which serves a student population of 881,he appealed for another borehole, this he said will help the students report on time to classes.
He further pointout that, staff population of 52 only 6 has accommodation on campus, the rest stays in town and had to report to work every day making it very difficult to maintain discipline on campus since the only six staff cannot control the 881 students.
The Upper West Regional Minister, Dr.Hafiz Bin Salih, expresses shock at how the storm ripped off the roofs of the school and promised to help fix the lost roof and other amenities that will aid teaching and learning on campus.
He called on the school authority to introduce the life history of Dr.Hilla Liman as the President of Ghana in the 3rd republic of Ghana.
The Minister indicated that the donation made was a short term remedy whiles he waits for a comprehensive report from the school authority and NADMO for him to take a quick action in replacing the lost roofs of the school and other facilities and admonished the students to take their studies seriously.
The Regional minister together with some members of the Regional Security Council also toured some other facilities that were affected by the last week rain storm which include the Gwollu Fire Station,the Heil CHIPS,Fatchu CHIPS including the Dr.Hilla Liman SHS
The trained teacher indicated the commitment of government in improving the standards of education in the country, he mentioned Free Senior High School as a social intervention that seek to reduce the burden of parents.
